You are the creator of your own life and happiness.
Confession time: I have spent a lot of time over the past year on personal growth and development and connecting to the things in life that light me up, make me happy, and keep me energized and fulfilled. My mindset and emotional health has done a complete 180 since taking this quote seriously and following my heart. I have learned so much about myself, my passions, and my purpose. In the process, I have also become attuned to things that deplete me and take away from my vitality, and I have made conscious effort to fill my life with more balance and peace. I have started a business that is rooted in serving and giving to others, promoting health, wellness, prevention, and personal development. My life is not without challenges, insecurities, and fears; but I can honestly say I have never been happier!
So why do I feel the need to share this lengthy thought stream?
Because life is a roller coaster and every day is a beautiful challenge and opportunity to grow. This past weekend, Kevin and I decided to “unplug” and soak up some quality time together by taking a couple of road trips within NC. We paddle boarded, hiked a beautiful mountain, grabbed drinks with friends, and spent an afternoon exploring the outer banks and relaxing at the beach. Needless to say, we recharged our batteries and filled our time with several things that we truly enjoy. I woke up in the morning like a kid at Christmas time, excited for our adventures…and I am extremely grateful for him and everything NC has to offer us.
Then, yesterday we both woke up to a nice dose of reality: laundry, dishes, bills, obligations, emails, schedules, etc (real life!)
I was then plagued with feelings of extreme guilt for taking the time for ourselves to get away for the weekend.
Thoughts like: Who am I to be able to take a day off from work and obligations to go have fun? I love my job and life, so why do I need to get away for the weekend? When I’m not working, I’m not making money for my business so I shouldn’t be taking time off. The thought stream continued for a little while before I caught myself in the negative pattern of thinking and coached myself out of it.
Everyone has the same right to be happy and to live a life filled with purpose and passion. We do not need to be miserable at work all week long in order to enjoy a vacation or restorative weekend. We do not need to justify self-care practices as a way to remedy our crazy lives. Creating a life that we love is one of the most beautiful ways to give back to the world and evolve into the best version of ourselves.
So I share this to say that feelings of guilt and self-doubt are going to creep in. Quickly recognizing our ego based fears and judgments will allow you to return back to your loving truth, which is that we are all deserving of happiness, health, and vitality.
Things to reflect on:
What are some things that you can do to prioritize yourself and enhance your mindset?
In what ways do you trap yourself in negative beliefs and self-talk?
How can you begin to re-program your beliefs and mindset to serve you better?
How can you affirm your self-worth and incorporate more self-care into your routine?
I will continue to fill my week with Zumba classes, even if I could be making more money doing something else.
*I will keep scheduling time for self-care and things that I enjoy.
*I vow to be spontaneous with my husband, taking unplanned weekend adventures that recharge our batteries.
*I will say NO to things that deplete me of my energy and do not align with my vision for myself.
*I will continue to employ myself in a way that gives back to my community.
Honoring yourself is the most self-less thing you can do for others.
Please allow this to be a light of inspiration to you, and anyone else who may benefit from hearing it.
From my heart to yours…
As always, I am wishing you the absolute best in Health and Happiness!
